Litter pickers even find snooker table dumped

-

THE level of illegal dumping has increased on the M1 - adding to the cost of cleaning it up, but also increasing the risk to workers who are left with the job of getting rid of it.

‘ Traffic is growing at the moment,’ Liam Preston from CRG remarked, but it’s bringing its own problems. ‘It seems to be getting more acceptable to throw certain rubbish out the window.’

Jonathan Daly, Maintenance Engineer, said they had a dedicated litter picking crew out in February, as well as the regular inspections and by the time they’d completed it, more had arrived!

‘It is frustrating because every time a worker goes out to collect it it is dangerous. We have had everything, from fly tippers to cars, a snooker table once and even abandoned horses, but not around here,’ Liam explained.
