-

CUSHINSTOWN AC had 13 athletes competing during days one and two of the National Juvenile Championships in the Athlone IT Arena and it proved a lucky omen as medals came thick and fast.

First into action on Saturday was Zoe Mohan in the U-18 shot putt where she came fourth with a new personal best, while Aoife Lenehan also threw a new PB in the U-17 shot putt to gain a silver medal.

Cushinstown’s U-14 4x200m relay team of Mollie White, Abi Sheehy, Ciara Smyth, Ava Purcell and Roisin McManus put in a very strong performance to come fourth overall.

Making a lot of mothers and grandmothers very proud on Sunday, there were more great results. Amy Callaghan jumped a personal best of 1.54m in the U-14 high jump to win a silver medal, while James Bellew also jumped a personal best of 1.31m in the U-12 high jump to claim a bronze medal in his first national championships.

In the 60m sprints Laura Bolster (U-13) flew through to the finals in the 60m sprint to win a gold medal, while Eamon Armstrong (U-12), Isabella Gogan (U-12) and Mollie White (U-14) all ran well and were very unlucky not to get through to the finals.

Isabella also put in a very strong performance in the U-12 high jump and Katie Lenehan put in some great throws in the U-15 shot putt, coming fifth overall in a very strong field.
