Death of Andy McEntee, Ardee

Mr. Andrew (Andy) McEntee whose death took place recently at Our Lady Of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, was proprietor of Dolan’s Seed and Grain Stores Ardee, was a well known figure in the business life of the town.

A native of Nobber, he came to Ardee 66 years of age serving his time in (the then) McQuillan’s Market Square, and in Brophy’s.

Shortly afterwards, Mr. McEntee took over the management of of Dolan’s Seed and Grain Stores when the extensive houses on either side of Castle St. were under the one ownership. Today as the position has been for some time, the grocery and ironmonger­y business is conducted by Thomas Dolan and Co. LTD. while the grain business is offically styled Dolan’s Seed and Grain Stores Ltd.. a completely seperate trading concern.

Both houses were founded over 100 years ago by Thomas Dolan, whose son, Joseph, carried on until his untimely death in January, 1930. The late Mr. McEntee, who built up a thriving business, operating over a wide area, was Hon. President of the Ardee Golf Club, with which he had active associatio­ns over several decades.

As a mark of respect, the club remained closed until 4 o’ clock on Saturday. Mr. McEntee is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lily McEntee : daughter, Miss Andrea McEntee: brothers, Philip and Joseph: Sisters, Sister M. Concepta, St. Josephs Convent, Navan, Misses Mary and Kathleen McEntee and Mrs. T. Connell . He was uncle of Rev. James Kearney, S.M., President, St. Mary’s College, Dundalk, and of Sister M. Chanel, Navan. He was pre-deceased in November by another sister, Mrs. Rose Kearney, Hale St., Ardee.
