MOST DANGEROUS ROUNDABOUT IN IRELAND - HERE!

What is the present bill for repair of ‘Hill of Rath’ roundabout signs?

-

I HAVE been keeping a close eye on the Hill of Rath roundabout - the one you meet as you come off the M1 on the northside of Drogheda and leading to the M1 Retail Park. But wait no longer! When is someone in authority, be that the council or the national roads body, going to take a serious hard look at this location and do something about it before someone is killed.

I’m not sure if it’s a design issue or just pure volume of traffic, but the amount of near misses and damage done to signage in this area is incredible.

The Hill of Rath roundabout sign - and that’s on all approaches - seems to be constantly in tatters from vehicles hitting it.

And not only that, they are on the roundabout, so somebody has driven right through the junction and mounted the grass !

On the retail park side, I’ve just seen two badly damaged poles for ages, with no sign.

On the side coming from the Rosehall roundabout, I’ve often seen tyre tracks right through the green area, taking sign and everything else with it.

Not so long ago a car was parked up further down the road with the front smashed in where it had hit the sign.

I wonder how many times does this have to happen before somebody asks the question ‘ ‘what’s up with this roundabout?’

Does it need rumble strips on all approaches, heavier signage to warn drivers?

It needs action and that must come quickly.
