A MAN has been sent forward for trial on a charge of dangerous driving causing the death of a woman in Togher last year.

Front seat passenger Margaret Healy from Annagassan died following a two car collision at Clonmore, Togher just after 11.30pm.

Paul Carroll (29), with an address at Simonstown, Togher, is charged with dangerous driving causing the death of Mrs Healy on March 12th, 2016 at Clonmore.

He appeared before Judge John Coughlan at Drogheda District Court where he was served with the book of evidence.

The Director of Public Prosecutions has directed Carroll be tried on indictment.

Judge Coughlan told the defendant he is being returned for trial on April 25th to Dundalk Circuit Criminal Court.

He formally sent the case forward for trial on the single indictable offence and gave the defendant the alibi warning, cautioning him he has 14 days to provide to the State details of anyone he proposes calling as witnesses in his defence.

He assigned the defendant’s solicitor one senior counsel and one junior counsel due to the seriousness of the charge.

The defendant was remanded on continuing bail pending the trial.
