Super Saints see off county champs to reach semis

ST BRIDES SEAN O’MAHONYS 0-11 0-9

-

ST Brides maintained their impressive start to the season when they defeated county champions, Sean O’Mahonys by two points on Sunday afternoon to reach the last four of the Paddy Sheelan Cup.

The Knockbridge side had already beaten the O’Mahonys in the group stages and proved that the result was no flash in the pan as they repeated the victory after holding off a second half rally the hosts at the Point Road.

The Brides went into the game with a 100 per cent record in the competition and the confidence of that run was evident in the opening half as they eased into a 0-6 to 0-1 lead by the interval. Ben McLaughlin scored the only point of the half for a disappointing O’Mahonys.

The Knockbridge side looked to be cruising to victory when they kicked the first two points of the second half to go seven clear.

However, the hosts finally got into their stride and with Conor Finnegan and Keith McLaughlin among the scorers they gradually reduced the gap. Entering the closing stages there was just a point between the teams, but it was the Brides who had the final say with a late point to claim victory.

One of the most satisfying aspects of the game for the winners was the fact that all of their forwards got on the scoresheet.
