Goals prove vital
NAOMH MAIRTIN NEWTOWN BLUES 2-15 0-18
GOALS from Conor Healy and Brian Berrill helped Naomh Mairtin overcome Newtown Blues in the Paddy Sheelan Cup quarter-final on Sunday morning.
The Monasterboice outfit made the short trip to Newfoundwell where they edged out the hosts in what proved to be an entertaining and high-scoring encounter.
The sides traded scores throughout the first half with Ciaran Downey and Robert Carr leading the way for the Blues, while Conor Whelan was also in good form in front of the posts for the visitors. However, it was a goal from Brian Berrill that gave the Mairtins the edge as they went in at the break leading by 1-7 to 0-9.
The second half followed a similar pattern as both teams continued to pick off some impressive points to leave the outcome in the balance up to the end. However, once again the Mairtins made their most of their goal opportunity as Conor Healy pounced to fire in a second and ensure a threepoint win for his side.
