Boyne’s dedicated marathon runners out again

BOYNE ACs marathon crew were back in action recently, this time crossing the water to take part in the Greater Manchester Marathon.

A glorious Sunday morning saw the dynamic Boyne quartet take on the gruelling 26.2 mile distance alongside almost 9,000 competitor­s.

Taking in the sights of the iconic Old Trafford Stadium amongst others, the route wound through the streets and outlying suburbs of Manchester, with spectators and entertainm­ent in abundance at every turn.

Rebecca Carolan was the first to cross the line flying the flag for Boyne, clocking an impressive 3.43 for her efforts, while Derek Boylan was just outside the sub 4 with a 4.01 finish.

Andrew Coyle was delighted with his new pb of 4.06, knocking almost 15 minutes off his previous best time, while Ryan Holcroft crossed the line in 5.20.

Meanwhile, back on the island, Amy McTeggart once again proved her dominance as the foremost multi-eventer on the national circuit as she scooped yet another win, this time in the Universiti­es Athletic Associatio­n Championsh­ips held in Cork on Saturday last, and also added a win in the individual high jump event to her medal haul on the day.

Getting a little closer to home, the ever popular Patsy Kelly 5k took place in Dundalk on Saturday evening last.

Under glorious sunshine, Catherine Tiernan Bell raced across the line in a super 22:06, while Judith McGuinness Faulkner was delighted with her 25:16 finish.
