The race is noted as being one of the faster marathon courses on the circuit with many athletes using the event to try to obtain Olympic standard times. Peter ran an excellent opening half with a 1.28 split at the halfway mark. The mid morning brought a notable increase in temperature which added to the difficulty facing the athletes in the second half of the event. Nonetheless Peter battled through these conditions to complete the event in an excellent time of 3 hours and 7 minutes. Earlier in the weekend on the scenic grounds of Clongowes college in north Kildare David Doyle finished 5th in the Clane AC 5K in a time of 17.49.
