BOYNE secured the bragging rights in the North East league on Sunday with a fine win over local rivals Navan.

Boyne struggled to get going in the opening 5 minutes and found themselves 5-0 down when Navan touched down in the corner for the opening score.

Boyne eventually settled into the game and on 10 minutes, a break from Alex Hanratty brought Boyne within a few meters of the Navan line.

He had good support and this allowed Alan Foley to sneak in to touch down.

A few minutes later David Hobbs powered through for the second try.

Boyne were in control at this stage and from the half way line, Calum Sterio was released and there was no stopping him as he ran free to score under the posts. Euan Canniffe added to extras. Navan were not giving up and just before half time, Navan got back in the game with a try and conversion to leave the game well poised going into the second half.

The second half was a very different affair with Boyne controlling the pace of the game and retaining possession for long periods.

A series of rucks eventually released Evan Kelly to touch down. Navan never looked like getting back into the game at this stage and one more try from David Hobbs finished off the game as a competition.

This was a dogged performance by Boyne who faced a bigger forwards based team in Navan and matched them in every facet of play.
