Public meeting planned on Marsh Road

-

A public meeting regarding the current Marsh Road development will take place in the d Hotel on Monday 24 April at 7.30pm.

Concerns regarding the current development of the green area on the Marsh Road will be discussed.

Cllr Frank Godfrey raised the issue at a recent meeting of the council with Director of Services Paddy Donnelly stating that there is planning permission on the site and that site works were being carried out. ‘ There is work ongoing on it,’ he told the councillor.

Cllr Pio Smith said he was aware the developer had moved onto the site and suggested they talk to the residents.

Cllr Godfrey said it had been levelled and claimed that a ‘residents right of way’ had been blocked .

‘ The residents are up in arms and have been using that right of way for 100 years,’ he claimed.

Speaking this week, the councillor said he would be alarmed about any development close to the historic viaduct.

‘We should be sensitive to the architectural landscape in this area. The viaduct is a landmark piece of architecture. It was constructed between 1853-1855, and was considered to be a ‘wonder of engineering’ at the time.’

‘I am concerned about the Silica Sand and McMahon’s timber yard sites, once busy commercial areas, but lying idle for some years now, as we don’t know what development plans are for them. Neither do we know what is happening on the land east of the viaduct as far as the Boyne Fisherman’s Rescue & Recovery. Could this be one huge development or a chain of expansion?’ continued Cllr Godfrey.

He said residents had a right to know what was planned.

All are welcome to attend the meeting, especially Weirhope and Marsh Road residents.
