Classy Stabannon cruise to first win

4-15 1-7

-

AFTER a tentative start Stabannon Parnells found their range in some style to see off the challenge of St Mochta’s.

Both sides struggled early on, but a goal from Meave O’Hare after a great pass in by Bronagh McGrane, followed bu five points without reply, set the county champs on their way.

A second goal from O’Hare helped Parnells to a 2-10 to 0-1 point half-time lead.

Rachel McNally opened the second half with what must be the goal of the season so far after Andrea Carney intercepted a pass in the Mochtas forward line and after three passes up the field Rachel landed the ball in the back of the net to increase the lead.

This was followed by three points from Grace Rogers, Michelle McArdle and Amy Malone.

To their credit the Mochtas three points without a reply and then a late goal, but Stabannon were well out of sight at that stage as they secured their first win of the campaign. ST Fechins got back to winning ways with a well-deserved 18-point victory over the Newtown Blues in an eventful encounter in Newfoundwell on Friday night. ST. Fechins dominated from the start and Rachel Kinch set the pace early on, scoring four unanswered points. THE Blues ladies struggled to break through the Fechins defensive line but scores from a free and a penalty left the teams level midway through the half. REBECCA Howell who was also in sparkling strode through the Blues defence and rattled the back of the net leaving the half time score 3-6 to 1-2.

Fechin’s kept their hosts at arms length in the second-half to record a handsome win..
