SPECIAL 60TH

- Fiona MAGENNIS

FRIENDS and family gathered in the Boyne Valley Hotel on Sunday to celebrate the 60th wedding anniversary of Patrick and Patricia Reilly.

The couple, who married in St Peter’s Church in Drogheda back in 1957, were thrilled to be surrounded by their loved ones to mark their Diamond wedding anniversary.

The party started at 3pm with a meal for those in attendance.

Patrick, who is originally from Millmount Square, and Patricia, who grew up in Sandyford Terrace, celebrated their wedding day with Patricia’s sister Frances McLeer as her bridesmaid and Patrick’s brother Hugh Reilly as best man.

Patrick worked in Ushers as Dispatch Manager and was known throughout the town for his sporting prowess, particularly in handball, while Patricia was an accomplished Irish dancer, winning All Ireland medals amongst the many accolades bestowed on her during her dancing career.

After their marriage, the couple settled in Marian Park where they welcomed their ten children Helen, Pat, Aidan, Eimear, Derek (RIP who was sadly missed from the party) Ada, Oonagh, Phelim, Damien and Frank.

They now have 29 grandchildren and two great grandchildren; Evie (1) and Maisie (6), all of whom they dote on.

They were joined for the party by their family and extended family including both Patrick and Patricia’s brothers and sisters and a fantastic day was had by all.

Patrick and Patricia married on April 24th, 1957 and the happy couple held their reception in The White Horse Hotel (now The Westcourt) before heading off on a honeymoon tour of the south of Ireland.

A story about the wedding appeared in this paper following their wedding in 1957 and outlined details of the happy day, including details of Patricia’s beautiful ballet length gown of white French lace and her bouquet of tulips and maiden hair fern.

‘It’s a big milestone and it was great to be able to mark the occasion,’ their daughter Oonagh told the Drogheda Independent.
