ST PATRICKS SEAN O’MAHONYS

-

Dreadnots fired in 1-3 without reply.

The Blues failed to recover from that blitz and an increasingly confident home side added three further goals to their tally. Peter Kirwan struck two goals while Karl Monaghan and Daragh Shevlin also found the net. Ross Nally found the net for the Blues but it wasn’t enough to put an end to their losing sequence. ST Patricks followed up their dramatic victory over Dreadnots by defeating another heavyweight in the shape of county champs Sean O’Mahony’s on Friday.

In a tight game where scores were at a premium it took a late goal from Aidan McCann to finally settle the encounter in favour of St Pats.

There have been a number of high profile games between the teams over the past number of years that have been keenly contested and this was no different. It proved to be another cagey affair where defences were very much on top throughout, although both sides didn’t help their chances by missing opportunities.

It was Stephen Kilcoyne who opened the scoring for the home team and it was tit-for-tat throughout the half that ended with the Pats leading by 0-4 to 0-3.

The second period followed a similar pattern and although the Pats extended their advantage to 0-6 to 0-4, the result was very much in the balance.

In the closing stages the O’Mahonys pushed forward in search of a goal to win the game, but they were hit on the counter as the Pats broke quickly and saw Aidan McCann seal victory with the only goal of the game.
