Glyde edge local derby

GLYDE RANGERS WESTERNS 1-12 0-9

-

GLYDE stretched their unbeaten start to the season in all competitions to seven games as they overcame Westerns in a tense derby in Tallanstown on Friday evening. It was a tight game and Glyde only really pulled away in the last few minutes despite the best efforts of Tommy Durnin to inspire his team.

Westerns started the match brightly, but Glyde rallied in the second quarter to make it 0-6 to 0-5 to the visitors at the break.

The second half saw Glyde begin to find some space in the full forward line and a goal after 12 minutes from Brian Duffy put them in front.

The hosts missed a number of chances and it took a couple of late scores from Devaney and a super effort, after a long run from Mark O’Brien to finally settle the issue.

Cein Sheridan at full back was superb, along with fellow defender Conor McGuill and Fiachra Sheridan. Aaron Devlin picked up a lot of loose ball.

For Westerns Colm Martin and Dylan Ogle impressed, as did sub Terence Sweeney.
