MASSIVE NUMBERS FOR THE 2017 BOYNE 10K

- BY HUBERT MURPHY

Boyne AC runners Jack O’Donoghue, Brian Curry, Gillian Connor, Anne Marie Garcia, Karen Fairclough and Ruth McCabe at Sunday’s 10k.

ARMAGH runner Paddy Hamilton came within a breath of setting a new course record at the Coca- Cola Boyne 10k on Sunday - but had to be content with sharing the accolade with local man Simon Ryan for another year.

Hamilton came in at 32.01, the same time as Ryan’s record, to see off up to 1800 other athletes.

Hamilton was the master on the day as he came in well ahead of Colin Maher from Ballyfin, back on 32.31.

There had been a group of about six runners at the head of the field as they hit Rathmullen, but the hill forced a break and Hamilton raced away.

Shane Toner and Brian McCloskey were under 33.55 while Simon Ryan was fifth.

Brian Martin from Drogheda and District ran a great race to finish seventh in 35.49.

Ruaidhri Nolan finished in 9th and Don Thornton, the 10k expert, was back in 12th with a great 37.28.

Niamh Devlin from Dundrum was first woman home in 38.19, followed in by Nicola Bull and Jane Bandla. Pamela Howard was fifth and DDAC team mate Jasmin Canning behind her.

Nuala Reilly was the first female over 60 home in a great time of 45.31 with Ann Noone in second. Rachel McKenna was the first female junior in with Team Wheelo’s Katie Whelan and Aobhin Russell behind her.

Danny Skeffington from DDAC was the first of the male over 50s in 37.47 and best of the male over 70s was Drogheda Boxing Club’s Gerry Carroll.
