O’Mahony’s to appeal deduction
SEAN O’Mahony’s are planning to appeal Keith McLaughlin’s 24-week ban and the two-point deduction they were hit with as a result of playing the former Louth panellist against Dundalk Gaels.
The Hearings Committee are due to rule on the appeal this week, with O’Mahony’s insisting they didn’t receive any notification that the player stood suspended for the derby clash.
McLaughlin was sent off against Naomh Mairtin and Dreadnots in the league last season and again against Geraldines in the Championship quarter-final and the club did receive notification that due to a repeat infraction he would miss the next two championship matches, which turned out to be the semi-final and final.
They felt that was the end of the matter and insist they didn’t receive any notification that McLaughlin was also suspended for the opening round of this year’s league on the back of the sending off against Dreadnots.
McLaughlin was banned for 24 weeks and the CCC opted to deduct the two points from O’Mahony’s rather than impose a fine.
Under the same rule Dundalk Gaels were not entitled to the points.
Should their appeal to the Hearings Committee fail O’Mahony’s can take their case to Croke Park or ultimately the DRA.
