Blues hit their neighbours for six in derby

-

Doherty left the Blues leading by 2-6 to 0-4 as the referee blew for half time.

Although the Blues had a very useful half time advantage the strong breeze meant they were taking nothing for granted and the half-time team talk would have stressed the importance of a fast start to the second-half.

Again Daire Nally was to the fore in the third quarter as he struck for two goals and he was aided by Jamie Doherty and wing forward Adam Kirwan who all raised green flags to leave the Blues 6-8 to 0-7 ahead as the game moved into the closing stages.

To their credit the Plunketts kept pushing forward in the final stages and they were rewarded with two late goals including one from the penalty spot to deny Blues goalkeeper Jonathan Clear the clean sheet that his impressive competitive debut for the minors deserved.

Plunkett also tacked on a number of good points which were answered with singles from Oisin Doherty and Adam Kirwan, having his best display of the year, to keep the scoreboard ticking over and ensure no late jitters for the boys in Blue who ran out worthy winners.

The Blues now go into the Leaving Cert break sharing the lead in Division 2 with St Mochtas. The team will train over the next six weeks with the focus very much on their top of the table clash in round 4 with the lads from Louth village at the end of June.
