105 new social houses on Rathmullen Road
THE go ahead has been given for a €22m scheme of 105 new social houses on the Rathmullen Road in Drogheda.
Minister for Housing Simon Coveney has sanctioned approval to Louth County Council, North and East Housing Association and Tuath for the 105 unit turnkey development at a site on the Rathmullen Road.
Work on the new housing development is expected to start in July and is expected to take 18 months to complete.
Confirming the news, local TD Fergus O’Dowd said: ‘ This project will be one of the most significant and important housing projects in the North East and will be vital in dealing with Drogheda’s serious housing crisis.’
The scheme of two and three bedroom houses is expected to start in July, subject to private finance being in place. There is Accelerated CALF approval for Túath’s element of the scheme (51 units). Túath and Respond are proposing to acquire, by phased handover, the 105 units with all units completed by the second quarter of 2019.
The project was originally approved for Tuath (35 units) and NEHA (35 units) in December 2016 and Louth County Council intended to acquire 35 and sell under the Incremental Purchase Scheme, however subsequently the Council decided not to proceed with their 35 units and TUATH and NEHA have now split the additional units to increase their share. There will be six phasess of delivery with 18 units in phase one starting in the fourth quarter of 2017.
