Kelly on a collision course with Co Board
COLIN Kelly appears to be on a collision course with the Louth County Board just two weeks out from his side’s Leinster Championship opener against Wicklow.
It’s understood the Reds’ chief has written to the county management committee outlining a number of organisational and administrative concerns in relation to the senior team set-up.
Rumours of unrest have been circulating for a while, but Kelly appears to have lost patience and put his concerns in writing, and may even be contemplating his position as county team boss in the longer term.
Among other issues the Louth chief is frustrated that his team have been forced to make alternative training arrangements over the next two weeks, with maintenance work on the pitches at the Darver Centre of Excellence rendering them unplayable.
The Reds will train at Dowdallshill this week and in Monasterboice next week ahead of the Wicklow clash in Parnell Park on Sunday week.
Last night’s scheduled county committee meeting was postponed at short notice.
It has been a testing week for Kelly with his side suffering two defeats in three days on the back of losing Derek Maguire for the rest of the season and Andy McDonnell until at least June.
Fortunately, the Reds suffered no further injuries over the weekend and despite conceding six goals to Westmeath on Sunday, the manager insists his troops will bounce back for the Wicklow clash.
If Louth do negotiate that banana-skin clash they will face Meath in the quarter-final for the second year running.
After an indifferent start to their league campaign, the Royals have found some form of late, but they have a long run-in to the potential Parnell Park date on June 3rd.
