First win for the Mairtins

NH MAIRTIN 2-17 LANNLEIRE 1-6

NH Mairtin recorded their first win in Division 3 as Lannleire suffered a heavy league defeat in Monasterboice on Friday night.

Former county player Nicky McDonnell was to the fore for the home side and his goal, five minutes in, gave Nh Mairtin a lead they never relinquished.

Carl Courtney was another player in form for the home side adding a number of points from play and from frees as the hosts led 1-9 to 0-5 at half time.

Niall Lennon scored three of Lannleire’s five points and his side could have been more in touch but passed up a number of goal chances during the half.

A Laurence McEntee goal for Lannleire three minutes into the second period, offered the visitors some hope but Nh Mairtin responded with a number of scores from play and a second Nicky McDonnell goal on 43 minutes ended the contest with Nh Mairtin finishing comfortable winners on a score-line of 2-17 to 1-6.
