Cille’s hit ‘Lough for six
ST COLMCILLE’S 6-18 BALLINLOUGH 2-8
IT was all too easy for St Colmcille’s as they got some shooting practice ahead of their eagerly awaited SFC against Keegan Cup holders Simonstown, in this league tie at Piltown.
Ballinlough went into the game pointless from their eight previous outings and it wasn’t difficult to see why as they were completely outplayed by their rampant hosts.
The Cille’s went three points up early on, only for Ballinlough to level through a goal from Michael Geraghty. Ballinlough managed to stay in contention in the opening 20 minutes, but then the floodgates opened, with Mark Whearty, James Conlon and David O’Byrne all finding the net. By half-time the Cille’s were 10 points clear, 3-9 to 1-5.
Any hopes of a Ballinlough revival were ended seconds after the restart as Conor O’Bryne won the throw-in and lofted a delivery to his brother David who blasted to the net.
The home side continued to add impressively to their tally, although they did concede a goal to Ballinlough’s corner back Eoghan McCabe.
The Cille’s emptied their bench in that second half and two substitutes, Jack Reynolds and Eanna Walsh, accounted for their remaining goals.
