‘Hill too steep for Furze to conquer

SUMMERHILL 1-17 SENESCHALSTOWN 2-7

-

SUMMERHILL remain joint leaders, while Seneschalstown slipped back to the bottom spot in the ‘A’ League Division 1 following this clash at the south Meath venue.

The home side moved into a big lead early on, boosted by a goal from Barry Dardis, and they held a 1-8 to 0-2 advantage by the 20th minute.

Points from Joe Sheridan and Bryan Clarke were all that Seneschalstown could manage in that spell.

However, the visitors then enjoyed a purple patch in the run-in towards half-time as they shrunk the deficit back to four points.

First Cathal Finnegan pointed after getting on the end of a pass from Sean Noonan and moments later the youngster rattled the back of Tony McDonnell’s net to breathe some life into his side.

Buoyed by that score, the Yellow Forze outfit continued in the ascendancy, and when Bryan Clarke’s goal effort broke back out Robert Wogan found himself in the right place and he tucked the ball to the net. Bryan Clarke then pointed, leaving it 1-11 to 2-4 at the break.

However, the Hill regained their composure, getting the first three scores of the second half, and that was to prove crucial.

It took Seneschalstown 12 minutes of the second half to register a score, a point from Joe Sheridan.

Cathal Finnegan soon added another as the ‘Hill passed up on a host of goal chances, some of which were well saved by David Gordon.

The home side were always able to keep Seneschalstown at arm’s length, though, despite further points from Robert Wogan who sent the ball between the uprights on two more occasions.
