There’s a treat in store for local music fans as well known local band Geriko are releasing their first album.

The three piece band were one of the most popular gigs in town during the 90s and early 2000s amassing a large and loyal following and the trio are thrilled to be releasing their first album.

While other commitments mean they don’t play live as often as they’d like to anymore, Podge Corcoran, Kevin O’Brien and Kevin Sheridan remain as passionate as ever about the music they produce. Kevin O’Brien told the Drogheda Independent: ‘We started recording the album back in 2012 so it’s been a long process. Life takes over, we were all off doing other things.

‘We stopped playing professionally around 2008 when the receission hit, lots of gigs got cancelled and people really stopped going out so that really affected us but the band was still there and we hadn’t done that one big album which was always our ambition. We were still playing together but the gigs weren’t as frequent.’

However, in 2012 the band decided to pursue their album and started recording the album in friend John Wild’s studio in his back garden.

‘We were at it for a good couple of years because we were doing it part time. I was in college, one of the guys was working.

‘So yeah it took a couple of years to get it finished and mastered. It’s lovely that after all those years of playing there are still people who remember the band and who remember the gigs so rather than just let it slide away and nothing come of it we said we’d put it out there and see if people like it and if it would bring back memories so we decided to promote it and puy it out there. ‘ There seems to bea really nice reaction to it. We’re incredibly proud of how it sounds. ‘ The album can be downloaded at https://www.cdbaby.com/m/cd/ geriko. The band will be taking names for vinyl/cd and email is geriko.lads@gmail.com.
