Remembrance Garden at the Augustinian

-

THE Augustinian Community in Drogheda is to create a Garden of Remembrance in the grounds of St. Augustine’s Church, Shop Street.

Inspiration for the Garden has grown out of the association of the Augustinian community with organisations such as SOSAD, the National Roads Authority, and the Emergency Services through the annual Masses held in the church in memory of those who have been lost through suicide, road traffic accidents and other tragic circumstances.

‘It is our wish to provide and maintain a quiet place of reflection where friends and family members can come to meditate and honour the memories of their loved ones. Plans have been prepared and work will commence shortly,’ a spokesperson stated.

‘We are in the process of launching a public fund-raising appeal to help finance the work (as well as ongoing maintenance of the garden) through sponsorship of trees, benches, paving slabs, and other features of the project. We also hope to offer an opportunity for those who wish to purchase memorial plaques that will be placed in the garden.’
