Heritage walk of the town
FOR those interested in the history and heritage of the town, the Old Drogheda Society Walk and Talk series, which have proved to be since their inception in 2015, will recommence on Wednesday May 17th, when Liam Reilly will lead the walk from Old Cornmarket Square at the top of Peter Street to St Mary’s Bridge.
It is just a short distance but a huge number of topics will be covered with many interesting stories of the inhabitants of these two historic streets.
This walk and talk will feature, The Old Cornmarket, St John’s Home, Drogheda and the Star & Crescent, Clarkes Pub, St Peter’s Parochial Centre, The Thornton family who took part in the 1916 Rising, The Argus, The Central Hotel, The Whitworth Memorial, The Tholsel, Daly’s Pub, Batchelor’s Lane, The Augustinian Church, Galbraith’s Bakery, Collins Hardware, Bessexwell Lane, The Cosy Bar( Somewhere Else), Tredagh Hotel/Round House, The Great Fire of Shop Street, St Mary’s Bridge.
It starts from outside St John’s Home at 7.30 pm.
