Our Lady’s College students gather to honour Rescue 116

- BY ELLA MURPHY

HUNDREDS of students from Our Lady’s College in Greenhills organised a poignant tribute to the crew and families of Rescue 116 during Positive Mental Health week in the school.

This time last year, the Coastguard helicopter landed in the school grounds to tell the students about their job.

Sadly, it tragically crashed just a few months ago with the crew lost.

Last week, the students stood on the exact spot the helicopter landed on and formed the number 116 in a fitting tribute. They also got an overhead picture of the event (above).

OUR Lady’s College in Greenhills celebrated Positive Mental Health Week for the fourth time this year, and while the week was packed with fun and games, the students and staff made sure the brave members of Rescue 116 were remembered too.

Last year, the crew of the Coastguard helicopter made their way when they landed in the green at Greehills to tell the students about their work.

Sadly, members of that crew died when the helicopter crashed earlier this year.

So, in their honour, the grass was specially cut to spell out Rescue 116 - on the exact spot where it landed.

It was a touching moment and was the school’s way of paying tribute to those that lost their lives.

The overall goal of the week is to make students more aware of their mental health, the importance of it and to ask for help if they need it.

Events took place all week, from lip sync battles to talks and fun exercise.

The students now look forward to 2018!
