SHOCK AS COURIER DRIVER IS HELD UP

GARDAI at Laytown Co Meath are appealing for witnesses following a robbery on Friday morning near Gormanston.

At approximat­ely 9.10am a courier van driver was accosted at a fuel service station between Gormanstow­n and Julianstow­n. He was forced to drive his van onto a laneway on the R132.

The van driver was assaulted a number of times by at least two males and items were taken from the van. One of the males is described as being 6’ tall, in his 40s with sallow skin, he was wearing a beanie hat and had his face covered with a scarf, he was also wearing a dark coloured jacket. The second male is described as being smaller in height and wearing long black wig.

Investigat­ors are appealing for informatio­n in relation to this incident. They are particular­ly interested in a black salon car (not better described) which was seen travelling southbound in front of the courier van. A white Ford Transit van also believed to have used in the robbery was later found abandoned at Gravemeado­ws, Stamullen.

Togher robbery

On May 11th at Boicetown, Togher, people arrived home to find that their house had been ransacked with a small amount of cash taken. It was reported between 7-8pm.

Gardai arrest

THE quick actions of gardai and the public saw an arrest at Hackballsc­ross following a suspicious incident at Gudderstow­n, Ardee on Wednesday last.

At 9.30pm, a silver Renault was observed driving around a property at Gudderstow­n. When the homeowners disturbed them, they left the scene and headed in the direction of Dundalk.

The car was spotted at Hackballsc­ross later and a man arrested.

Thomas St incident

A WOMAN prevented a robbery at her home when she came across a male trying to gain access through a rear door.

At 11.30pm on Saturday May 13, on Thomas Street, a man was observed trying to break in using an implement. He quickly left, jumping over a wall.

Lawnmower stolen

A LAWNMOWER, electric saw and two drills were stolen from a garden shed in Forest Grange between 10.30pm and 6am on May 12th and 13th.

Tablet stolen

A DELIVERY man had his Samsung tablet and phone taken from his vehicle which was parked on Dyer Street. The incident occurred at 4.15pm on Friday last.

Ardee break in

GARDAI in Ardee are investigat­ing a burglary in Ardee on Sunday between 3pm-11pm. The homeowners returned to find a tap running upstairs. When they then entered the rest of the course they found considerab­le damage done.
