€5M BOOST FOR REGION
Fianna Fáil TD for Meath East Thomas Byrne has said his party’s continued confidence and supply arrangement with Fine Gael should see continued cultural investment by the Government in county Meath.
Deputy Byrne made his comments as he welcomed the announcement of a €5.1m funding package by Fáilte Ireland for the Brú na Bóinne Visitor Centre, Newgrange, Knowth, and the Boyne Valley
“It is vital that such cultural attractions are both protected and enhanced to meet the needs of contemporary visitors, and to capitalise on Meath’s unique landscape, accessible location within Ireland, and its proximity to Dublin airport and ferry port.
“I am delighted that more than €5m of the €11.5m package recently confirmed by Fáilte Ireland will go towards the revamp and refurbishment of the compelling and extraordinary attractions we have along the northern part of the Ancient East region.
‘ The Brú na Bóinne Visitor Centre will receive almost €2.6m, the site at Newgrange is to get €1m, Knowth will be given €1.4m, and a total of €120,000 will go towards technical assistance in the commissioning of an interpretation masterplan for multiple sites in the Boyne Valley.’
