Syddan run stopped

NOBBER SYDDAN 3-14 2-10

-

SYDDAN failed to build on a bright start as their winning run was halted by their north Meath neighbours at Ludlow Park.

The home side had raced into a 1-4 to 0-1 lead after 11th minute. However by half-time Syddan had relinquished the initiative and it was Nobber who led 2-7 to 1-6.

That gap widened in the third quarter, and while Syddan rallied briefly following Michael Fedigan’s 50th-minute goal, the upper hand remained with the visitors.

Syddan’s opening goal arrived on nine minutes when Daire Rowe capitalised on an error in the Nobber defence and raced clear to crash the ball to the net.

A Sean Meade point was all Nobber had to show for their efforts early on. However, they worked their way into contention and were on level terms when Meade pounced for a goal.

Daire Rowe regained the lead for Syddan, but Nobber finished the half strongly with points from Alan Farrell (’45) and Casserly (free), while Casserly also found the net to leave his side four clear.

Darragh Cassidy increased the Nobber lead on the restart, but the decisive score was a goal from Meade on 42 minutes. That gave the eventual winners a 3-8 to 1-8 cushion. Fedigan’s goal left five points between the sides, but Syddan only managed one more point after that - from Daire Rowe.

SYDDAN: Ciaran Farrelly; Kevin Garland, Ben Bashford, Cormac Rafferty; Mark Fedigan, Ronan Mooney, Andrew Garland; Gary McManus, Gary Farrelly; Michael Fedigan 1-0, Cormac Rowe 0-2, Paddy Farrelly; Graham Garland, Brian Dillon 0-2, Daire Rowe 1-6. Subs: Jack Reid for Dillon, Stuart Fedigan for A Garland.
