Lennon goal the clincher

-

LANNLEIRE and Westerns served up a competitive hour of football at a resplendent Pairc Ui Mhuiri on Friday evening with the home side gaining the victory thanks to a late Niall Lennon goal.

The first half had ended with Lannleire leading by 0-6 to 0-5 with both sides guilty of a number of missed chances.

Exchanges were even in the first ten minutes of the second half until Lannleire’s Paul Callan sent over three points from play in as many minutes to put the home team in the ascendancy. However, a mistake in the last line of defence for Lannleire allowed Westerns’ Peter Shielss in for a goal, which they quickly followed up with a pointed free to lead by one.

Lannleire needed to respond and they did with points from Alan Murphy and Gary Monaghan to regain the lead, before a good passing movement from the home team finished with Lennon netting.

Strong defending by Lannleire rearguard prevented any further Westerns scores.
