-

TWO women who are alleged to have stolen nearly €4,000 worth of mobile phones from a Drogheda supermarket are to be sent forward for trial to the Circuit Court.

Kathleen McDonagh (41) and Nora McDonagh (22), both with an address at Afton Drive in Dundalk were remanded on continuing bail until July 7th when they are expected to be served with the Book of Evidence and be returned for trial.

Previously the court heard the Director of Public Prosecutions had directed summary disposal of the case, meaning it can be heard at district court level, where, if convicted, the penalties are lower than those of the Circuit Court.

However, Judge John Coughlan had refused jurisdiction to have the case heard in the district court due to the alleged amount involved.

The women are charged with the theft of €3,728 worth of mobile phones from Tesco in Drogheda on September 21st, 2016.
