-

A wreath will be laid on the grave of Mother Mary Martin in St Peter’s Cemetery, Drogheda, on Saturday ,May 27th at 3pm, to mark the 80th anniversary of the foundation of the Medical Missionaries of Mary. The wreath will be laid by Drogheda Councillor Frank Godfrey who said all are welcome to attend, particularly those who were employed in Our Lady of Lourdes hospital or who were cared for there in any way. The short memorial ceremony will consist of prayers and music and will pay tribute to one of Drogheda’s visionaries, Mother Mary Martin. ‘ The hospital gave huge employment over the years, from initial construction to medical jobs, to ancillary services like the laundry and canteen,’ explained Cllr Godfrey. ‘It’s important to recognise the foundress of the MMMs who had the vision and foresight to establish a major hospital in this town, employing more than 1,000 people at any time. Mother Mary Martin is a saint in my books and was way ahead of her time!’
