Cllr calls for litter penalty points
A local councillor has called for a penalty points system to be introduced for those who are caught dumping illegally in addition to the existing fines.
The issue was raised in a notice of motion from Councillor Tommy Byrne who asked that Louth County Council (LCC) write to the Minister for Justice and Law Reform asking him to consider the introduction of legislation, similar to the motorists penalty points systme, for blatant illegal dumping offences in addition to the existing fines, to send out a strong message and deterrent to would be offenders in the interest of the environment and public health.
Councillors at the meeting agreed to write to the Minister about this issue.
