Mother Mary Bormeo Halpin and her NZ link

-

MOTHER Mary Bormeo Halpin must have been some woman.

50 years ago she celebrated her Golden Jubilee in Auckland, New Zealand.

She was born in Drogheda and brought many girls from the area out to New Zealand.

In 1949, she was pictured with some Louth girls, namely Sr Marie (Mary McKeever from Ardee), Sr Lorna (Lorna Duffy from Ardee), Sr Patricia (Patricia Gleeson from Drogheda), Sr Bernie (Bernadette Murphy, Ardee) and Sr Nuala (Brigid Ladley from Dundalk).

That same year she came home and was successful in attracting 28 Irish girls to travel with her to Auckland.
