No movement on the Whitworth monument proposal

AT a recent meeting of the Old Drogheda Society, secretary Mrs Corcoran said that the only result of the society’s agitation to have the Whitworth Monument re-erected in a suitable place was a letter from the Town Clerk which said the Corporatio­n decided at its meeting that no action would be taken on the proposal for the re-erection of the Whitworth Monument.

An Grianan open day

Aine Barrington, Publicity Officer for the Irish Countrywom­en’s Associatio­n, is inviting everyone to an open day at An Grianan (translatio­n—The sunny place) on 20th 21st, 23rd, 24th, and 25th May.

For a mere half-a-crown. the general public, families and all, will be brought on a conducted tour of this interestin­g house including the craft rooms, where many demonstrat­ions will be in progress, and the gardens where two fully-trained horticultu­ralists are preparing the way for a one year course in horticultu­re .

MMM Sisters make their final vows

Leontia Reynolds, R.G.N., Portadown; Sister Mary of Lourdes Hogan, Ardavillan­e, Tipperary: sister M. Cornelia Costello, B.A., Drumcondra Road, Dublin; Sister M. Lucia Lynch, S.R.N., R.M., Callan, Co. Kilkenny, and Sister Maria Noel Woods, S.R.N., R.M., Ballyconne­ll, Co. Cavan.

The ceremony was performed by Right Rev.. Dom Francis McHenry, OSB.,, Prior, Benedictin­e Abbey, Glenstal, assisted by Rev. Michael Dorman, C.C, St. Peter’s, ; Drogheda. Vows were received by Mother Mary Martin, Foundress and Superior General of the Order .

Katherina MacArdle

Mrs. Katherina M. MacArdle, of Whitemills, Castlebell­inghain, who died in the Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, was widow of Mr. Michael J. MacArdle, late of Mlltowngra­nge, former chairman of MacArdle, Moore and Co., the Dundalk brewers.
