Beach committee hosting open night on plans for area’s greatest resource
THE Laytown, Bettystown and Mornington Beach Management Committee along with The Waters and Communities Office have organised a social event open to all and packed with content focusing on our most precious and unique asset; the beach.
The event takes place on the 25th May at Reddan’s of Bettystown from 7pm and is a great opportunity for the public to view recommendations made for the beach by consultants acting on the behalf of Meath County Council. The Waters and Communities Office and Boyne Valley Tourism will make presentations as part of the offering designed to foster community involvement.
Alan Watson, Chairman of the Beach Management Committee, says: “We’re all people who are passionate about the beach, so come down, meet us, and find out how to have your opinion heard and how to make submissions regarding the recommendations.
‘ The Beach Management Committee is here to provide support for anyone who wants to see our special piece of coast realise it’s full potential.”
The evening will showcase the work of the RNLI, An Taisce, Clean Coasts, The Waters & Communities Office, The Drogheda Coastguard Unit, The Boyne Trail, and Boyne Valley Tourism, who will all be in attendance and eager to make information available.
“We need to make the forthcoming draft of Meath County Council’s Beach Management Plan as interesting and engaging as possible, so we’ve really pulled out the stops to put together something everybody can sink their teeth into.”
Explains George Karellas, public relations officer for the committee, “The most meaningful way we could do that was to invite anyone who could bring knowledge and understanding to the plan, and focus that sense of pride in the community for our special piece of home.“
The Beach Management Committee was appointed after a call for such a body was outlined in an initial proposal for a draft Beach Management Plan.
Liaising with the public and local groups is paramount amongst the group’s interests, as is seeking out funding, promoting beach events and working with local schools to educate.
