INSE BAY CHICANE HAS BEEN SUCCESS IN SLOWING CARS

- BY HUBERT MURPHY

THE chicane in the Inse Bay estate in Laytown has been a success, according to the council.

The issue was raised as part of a plan to introduce a series of 30km/h limits in estates in the region.

Cllr Tom Kelly asked how are the limits enforced and was told that large signs are placed in the areas and if the speed continues to be in excess of the 30km/h, traffic calming measures can be put in place. Pilot schemes, chicanes, had been put in place. He was informed that the one in Inse Bay had reduced speed by 14hm/h in the estate.

The new areas to get 30km/h zones in estates can expect to see them in operation in October or towards the end of the year. The latest areas to get the limits approved are: Duleek: Millrace, Bathe Abbey. Stamullen: Forgehill, Gracemeadow, Kilbreck and Glasheen, The Orchard. Julianstown: Ballygarth Manor. Mornington; Mornington Manor. Slane: Abbey View, Castle Garden, Castle Hill, Churchlands, Crann Daire Brae, King of Kings, Ledwidge Hall, Stanley Heights.
