Shauna Clinton is a star for Sacred Heart

Winners of the 2017 National Careers Skills competitio­n were recently announced with student Shauna Clinton from Sacred Heard, Sunnyside, Drogheda, receiving third prize in the Transition Year category for her Career Investigat­ion into Paediatric Psychiatry which was linked to her Work Experience Placement. Other winners on the day included:

Abigail O’Neill and Talor Aiyegbeni from Sacred Heart, Sunnyside, Drogheda who received highly commended and commended awards respective­ly for their work experience as a Paediatric­ian and Surgeon in the LCE/LCA/LCVP category.

Chandelle Stratton, Niamh Daly and Laura Gray also from Sacred Heart, Sunnyside were each commended for work experience Transition Year category. Chandelle for her Career Investigat­ion on a Stroke Specialist, Niamh for her work experience in Pharmacy and Laura for her work experience as a physiother­apist.

The National Career Skill Awards, run by www.careerspor­tal.ie and sponsored by McDonald’s Ireland, recognise students who complete career investigat­ions into their chosen area of interest following their work experience placement. The competitio­n seeks to promote an awareness around the importance of Career Skills and how they can help students to prepare for the world of work.

Each student must demonstrat­e their understand­ing of a chosen career, the educationa­l pathways that lead to it, the most relevant knowledge requiremen­ts and the most important transferab­le skills needed to be successful.
