Campaign call to highlight €4 charge for Lourdes hospital

-

AN ADVERTISING campaign has been called for to highlight the fact that cancer patients attending Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital can avail of a reduced car parking charge.

Cllr Tommy Byrne brought the matter to the Dublin North East Health Forum meeting in May on behalf of ‘cancer patients and their families and other seriously ill patients and their designated carers.’

He tabled a motion calling for the HSE to eliminate car parking charges in the hospital for certain people.

The motion was passed unanimously and was attended by Councillors from all regions.

‘I have requested and was agreed by all in attendance that Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital takes out an advertising campaign highlighting the €4 per week car parking charge,’ he stated.

The HSE confirmed that the system had been in place for a number of years and is managed by the social worker who supports Oncology services.

‘ The flat rate for this is €4 per week regardless of duration of stay, or if attending on several occasions within the week. Oncology patients are also afforded set down facilities directly adjacent to the Unit.’
