Manwas punched in head at local pub

-

A YOUNG man who punched another young man in the head several times in a Drogheda pub in what has been described as a ‘unprovoked’ attack may avoid a conviction if he comes up with money for a charitable donation.

Cian Leddy (22) approached the injured party in the beer garden of McPhail’s pub and with a closed fist he punched the injured party in the head and body.

He was removed from the pub by security staff.

The injured party reported the assault to Garda Kenneth Bogan the following day, Drogheda District Court heard.

Gda Bogan said he viewed CCTV footage and on November 1st, 2015 the defendant made certain admissions. Gda Bogan said the attack was unprovoked.

Defence solicitor Eleanor Kelly said there was history between one of the group the injured party was with and the defendant.

She said the injured party blocked the defendant’s girlfriend way and the defendant reacted. ‘He is willing to come up with a charitable donation,’ said Ms Kelly. Judge John Coughlan agreed to adjourn the case until June 2nd.
