Landscaping and family picnic tables needed beside car park in Laytown

-

CALLS are being made for an area close to the car park in Laytown to be properly designed and managed, to include a picnic area and tables.

‘It’s the first impression people get of Laytown when they come under the bridge’, Cllr Sharon Tolan told a recent area meeting.

‘It’s not a huge job and could be landscaped and made into a nice walkway.

‘I have allocated funding for outside gym equipment and I hope to see the work done.

‘If you go to Skerries or Malahide, it’s all beautifully scenic, the grass is cut and there’s a few benches. It could be done in tandem with the car park works,’ she added.

Cllr Eimear Ferguson said she’d asked for the area to be done last year.

The council said that there wasn’t a landscaping plan for it and any works might impede on the Laytown Races.

Cllr Sharon Keogan said funding for it could be secured under the Rural Recreational Scheme.

The new car park at the bridge will be whitelined and tarmaced, but Cllr Ferguson said long term she still wants rid of it. ‘Bring back the tennis courts’, she remarked.
