Togher jumper on a high

HIGH jumper Emily Rogers’ season just keeps getting better after the very talented Togher athlete travelled to Belgium to take part in the Flanders Outdoor Athletic Meeting.

The standard of competitio­n is very high at this event, but that didn’t faze St Peter’s AC club member Emily as she leaped to a new personal best of 1.78m to win gold.

This was a fantastic achievemen­t considerin­g the Italian athlete Desiree Rosset who finished in second place is currently ranked seventh in the world and was a finalist in both the Olympic Games and European Games last year.

Emily’s younger brother was also in action on home soil at the same time his sister was in Belgium. Mark was in Morton Stadium, Santry, competing in the 400m hurdles in a competitio­n between the Irish and Scottish Universiti­es. Mark, who is a DCU student, had an excellent run to finish third.
