Dunleer duo brave elements

-

DUNLEER AC duo Jack Boylan and Conor Matthews braved the pouring rain to achieve good runs in Tullamore in the Irish Milers Club 1500m on Saturday.

Jack posted a time of 4:02 in the A race and Conor 4:24 in the B event, and on Sunday - ladies day - Nicola Welsh ran a personal best of 4:48, also in the 1500m, at the AAI Games in Santry.

Closer to home, the Dunleer club’s athletes enjoyed a great night of athletics and fun at the Blackrock AC promoted event last Friday, with many medals won on the night.

Dunleer AC is Getting ready for this year’s 4-Mile Road Race with a series of Couch to 4 Mile training sessions at 7.30pm on Thursdays at the clubrooms in Dunleer. This plan will get runners into great shape for the race, which takes place on July 16th.

Next weekend Dunleer AC will be travelling to Tullamore to the All-Ireland Schools Track and Field Championships to support the athletes who have qualified for this prestigious event, with Victor Eseosa in the minor boys 800m,

Aeyla Orr in the junior girls long jump, Emma Cheshire in the senior girls long jump and Liam Connaughton in the Intermediate javelin and Diarmuid Mc Keown in the senior boys 1500m.

All will represent their schools with pride as they look forward to the summer holidays and a summer of track and field training and competition.

Once again Dunleer AC is hosting a summer camp for Athletics Ireland.

This year the organiser Jacqueline Matthews has booked the Lourdes Stadium for the summer camp in order to make full use of this excellent facility, to maximise the fun element and to teach the technical aspects of even more athletic disciplines.

The dates are July 10th - 14th from 10am to 2pm daily and the camp is suitable for six to 12-year-olds. The cost is €50, which includes a free t-shirt, spike bag, water bottle, medal and certificate.

Please register through the Athletics Ireland website.
