GORMO TRAFFIC CONGESTION

The local residents of Gormanston village must be breathing a sigh of relief as the students from the local secondary school/college take their summer holidays as the traffic congestion, particularly in the mid afternoon at the close of the school day, will cease. The village is crammed with vehicles of all shapes and sizes everyday as parents are awaiting their children to emerge from school in the afternoon and there has already been a number of incidents involving vehicles over the past school year.

Many of the local residents have also complained about the traffic congestion on their doorsteps every day and with apparent little regard for the residents.

The traffic flow through the grounds of the former Gormanston Castle and College has been curtailed in recent times, with a one-way system also in operation; however it appears that a large number of parents and motorists who come each day to collect the children from the school are opting to park in any space that appears free in the old linear village rather than they having to go into the actual grounds and follow the one-way system back out onto the Stamullen Road.

If the old resident population of the village and their peaceful and tranquil setting is to be preserved and, more importantly, respected; then perhaps changes will come about over the summer period and the problem will be relieved by the students return in September!

BOWLS A.G.M.

The Stamullen Bowls Club held their Annual General Meeting recently and the following Officers were elected to their respected positions.

David Hall: Chairperson, Ralph Bull: Secretary Niall Moore, Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer harry Daly, Public Relations Officer Rose McGrath, Selector Dave Hall, Comp Selector Harry Daly. The successful local club also attended the Meath Zone Dinner Dance, held at the Castle Arch Hotel in Trim on May 5th last. The Bowls team were presented with their cup and individual medals on winning the Division 2 league this season. Apparently a great evening was had by all who attended. The Stamullen Bowls Club have now taken their end of season and summer break and will return in September. Anyone who may be thinking of joining the club may do so by contacting Rose at 01-8412086.

GOLDEN GIRLS

The local Golden Girls are planning an evening Race Meeting attendance at Fairyhouse on June 1st next and also a scenic tour of the beautiful area of Carlingford County Louth on June 26th . Anyone, from within or indeed without the group will be more than welcome to come on either or both of these planned events and where you will be made feel most welcome and in great company. For further information on the above-mentioned outings, contact Rose at 086-8377033.

DEER SIGHTING

Apparently a wild deer has been sighted in recent weeks in the area of Clinstown/Ballestrand and `hoof-type` prints left in certain parts of the landscape when it was wet and damp and which I have actually seen, are believed to have been made by such an animal as a small deer. Wild deer have been sighted in the past throughout this district such as at dardistown, Naul/Clonalvy and other locations across the parish and beyond.

The largest herd of deer in the region may be seen in the Oldbridge/Townley Hall area, while there are also many deer on the south bank of the Boyne River in the Donore/Duleek district. It would be greatly appreciated that anyone with any information on such a sighting can contact Brendan at 086-2260158.
