Mother and children flee blaze on Ship St

THE quick actions of neighbours prevented a tragedy on Ship Street on Sunday night when a mum and her two children were rushed from the scene of a blaze in a house on the historic street.

Just after 8.20pm, local photographer Karen Smyth spotted smoke coming from a vacant house on the street on the Marsh Road and with the assistance of a local man managed to alert the woman, who lives next door, and help her flee the scene. Extensive damage was done in the blaze.
