Beaulieu needs broadband boost

-

RESIDENTS in Beaulieu are being left in the dark ages as they can’t access high speed broadband.

Cllr Tommy Byrne said he has received a number of complaints and wrote to Minister Denis Naughten as a result.

‘Most times it is unusable as it is so slow or it just drops out completely,’ one resident stated. He said Eir had been contacted and they have installed Fibre Cable in the Beaulieu area, which is ready to go, but there is no Fibre Broadband Cabinet in the area, so they can’t connect the residents.

‘All the residents in Beaulieu appear to have been overlooked, as there are Fibre Broadband Cabinets in Drogheda as far as Aston Village, Beaulieu is skipped and then there are Fibre Broadband Cabinets in Termonfeckin.’

People in the area at old coach road in Beltichburne have been complaining to Eir about the quality of broadband for seven years.

They have to go to Drogheda to guarantee payment of bills online and on time. ‘Our children’s education was hampered due to the fact that they could not always do homework at home. Checking in for flights and buying concert tickets all have to be done from a cafe in town to guarantee the correct outcome,’ a resident explained.

Another provider, Virgin Media, have said they are ‘unable to commit to a network rollout in the Beaulieu area at this time,’ but should the ability to access the area through other opportunities arise, then they ‘would be delighted to revisit in the future.’
