Give Jim Garry Way the right of way in new plan?

-

WALKING across Jim Garry Way last week, I couldn’t but wonder how the council are going to sort out this junction when Laurence’s Gate closes in a few months time.

The plan is that the traffic flow on Francis Street is reversed, so you can come up Constitution Hill (but can’t turn right onto the Chord Road, its direction will be reversed also) and go on up Francis Street, either taking the left for Jim Garry Way (also to be reversed direction compared to the present scenario) or going to the top of the street to meet Scarlet Street.

An issue that will arise is when traffic going over Jim Garry Way meets the flow coming down King Street and up Palace Street.

Most of the time, both are pretty busy and Jim Garry Way can just take five cars maximum. Any more than that and cars will be tailbacked down Francis Street as there is no room to overtake.

Would it be prudent then to give traffic coming out of Jim Garry Way the right of way onto the William Street junction?
