Death of Pat Morgan from Murray’s Cross

The death took place recently, at his son’s residence in Sligo of Mr. Patrick Morgan, retired publican, of Murray’s Cross, Clogherhea­d. Aged 71, he had been unwell for some time. Well-known in the mid-Louth area and Drogheda district, his passing has evoked sincere sorrow.

He is survived by his widow; also his son, David (agricultur­al Instructor, Co. Sligo), and daughters two of whom are in religion, and who flew home from Texas for the funeral which took place from the Church of SS. Peter and Paul, Walshestow­n, to the family burial ground at Dromin, Dunleer. There was a large and representa­tive gathering.

Termonfeck­in rectory sold for £3,000

The Rectory, Termonfeck­in, standing on 31 statute acres, was sold by public auction, on Thursday afternoon last, for £3,300, to Mr. R. McD. Taylor, solr., Drogheda, in trust.

Death of Annie White

Much regret has been occasioned over a wide area by the death which occurred recently at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, of Mrs. Annie White, 1 Francis Street, Drogheda.

The deceased lady, who was in her seventies, was bom at Collon and was daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Bellew. A devout Catholic, she was a lifelong member of the Third Order of St. Francis. She was the wife of. Mr. Patrick White, the wellknown Drogheda taxi driver.

She is also survived by her daughters, Mrs. Ena Ormiston ( Yellowbatt­er) and Mrs. Cepta McEvoy (Bolton Square); sister, Mrs. B. O’Leary (Shankill, Dublin); brother, William Bellew (Collon); sonsin-law, Walter Ormiston and Peter McEvoy; grandchild­ren, nieces, nephews, relatives . and friends.

Jack Brennan

Much regret has been occasioned over a wide area by the death, which occurred recently at the Cottage Hospital, of Mr John (Jack) Brennan, 10 St. Brigid’s Terrace, Scarlet Street, Drogheda. Aged about 64 and a native of Co Dublin, he lived at Bettystown until about 18 years ago. He was a member of the C.I.E. staff . The deceased took a keen interest in Gaelic football and was an ardent follower of the Meath team, He was a member of the Old I.R.A. and his comrades formed a guard of honour at the graveside, while his coffin was draped in the Tricolour.

Mhuires win

NAOMH Mhuire saw off the Dreadnots 4-1 to 2-3 in their Junior League clash. Jim Hickey, Hugh Cunningham and Tony Matthews were their stars.

Mrs Dorothy Callaghan

THE DEATH occurred on Tuesday night last, of Mrs. Dorothy Callaghan, St. Peter’s Cottage, Mosney, Co . Meath.

The late Mrs. Callaghan, who was a native of Dublin, was a dietician in the Rotunda Hospital up to her death and had been employed by the Department of Health before she was married. She had served with the World Health Organisati­on in Mauritius for two years. The deceased lady was a prominent member of the Drogheda Soropmists Club and was also wellknown in sporting circles, having been an Irish junior tennis champion; she also played golf.

The late Mrs. Callaghan was daughter of Mrs. Una Miley and the late Mr. J. F. Miley, S.C., who died last January. She is survived by her husband, Mr . Paddy Callaghan (sales manager of Butlin’s Holiday Camp, Mosney); daughter, Caroline

Slane FCA has given great service

Down through the years the officers. N.C.O.’s and men of the Slane Platoon had given loyal and faithful service to the force and he was glad to be present to say a few words to them that night said Commdt. Sean Murray, O.C.. B. Coy., 8th Battalion, when he addressed the attendance at the annual dinner and social of the Slane Platoon, F.C.A.. in tho Grove Hotel. Dunleer. recently.

Lieut. G. Kirwin, Training Offlcer, B Coy., thanked the management and staff of the hotel for the excellent meal. Sergeant Thomas Nevin thanked the guests for coming.
