LEARNING FOR LIFE AWARDS
Sixteen Drogheda participants were presented with their certifciates by Minister of State Catherine Byrne TD after participating in the Diageo Ireland Learning for Life programme.
The group were awarded their scrolls in a special graduation ceremony which took place in the Mansion House, Dublin on Tuesday.
Learning For Life is a Diageo Ireland initiative run in partnership with the Department of Social Protection that equips young people who are long-term unemployed with the skills and training necessary to take up employment opportunities in the hospitality industryEach participant in Learning For Life is supported with training from local education and training partner who help equip them with the skills required to take up real employment opportunities. Following the completion of the education and training element the participants are then given an opportunity to take up a further work placement with a Diageo hospitality industry partner in a landmark pub, hotel or restaurant. The award-winning initiative was originally piloted in Dublin 8 in 2014 and has since extended to seven regions across the country including Drogheda. In this period, 225 young people have completed the programme with 72% of the participants going on to full time employment or education.
Drogheda graduates were joined by the Department of Social Protection and Positive 2 Work Skillnet who work in conjunction with Diageo to deliver the award-winning programme in Drogheda.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony Minister of State Catherine Byrne said: ‘I wish to extend my congratulations to all those who are graduating. The dedication they have shown throughout this programme is remarkable and a testament to both their ambition and to the skills and training they have received.’
